Biography
Sam began his TNC career in 1995 with the North Carolina program. He joined the Virginia chapter the following year, serving as land steward from 1996-2002. Sam then spent five years, from 2002-2007, with TNC's global fire initiative, leading fire training for partners and staff across the organization.
In 2022 Sam assumed the role of Director of Landscape Conservation for the chapter, facilitating information and knowledge exchange across the Virginia's landscapes and cross-boundary conservation teams, fostering collaboration with the goal of achieving the greatest conservation outcomes.
Sam has served as a primary leader for several large landscape restoration program initiatives, particularly where Virginia is engaging with federal and state agencies. In that capacity, Sam has practiced landscape level fire management, including large burn implementation, aviation and adaptive management through facilitating research, monitoring and collaborative learning across a broad spectrum of natural resource partners.
Sam has a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology from Auburn University.
