Jan Glendening is North America Regional Managing Director and member of the Executive Leadership Team of The Nature Conservancy, a global organization working to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The Conservancy’s North America Region encompasses business units in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.

Prior to taking on this leadership role in 2020, Jan was the Great Plains Division Director overseeing the Conservancy’s work on the Mississippi River, grassland & forest systems, as well as food, water and energy issues encountered in working landscapes and cities across the nine Great Plains states. Jan started her Conservancy career in the Iowa chapter in 2001, holding the positions of Development Assistant, Donor Relations Manager, Associate Director of Philanthropy, Senior Director of Philanthropy, Director of Philanthropy, Assistant State Director and Iowa State Director through the years. 

During her time with the Iowa chapter, Jan successfully led two capital campaigns raising more than $50 million for conservation and expanded the organizations work with agriculture. In 2010, Glendening served as finance chair of Iowa’s Water and Land Legacy, a coalition of more than 130 organizations that was successful in passing a constitutional amendment to increase natural resources funding in Iowa. She also previously served on the Iowa Soybean Association’s Research Advisory Council, Capital Crossroads 2.0 Steering Committee, Iowa’s Water Future Task Force and was Co-chair of the Iowa’s Water and Land Legacy Coalition.

A native Iowan, Glendening was raised on a farm in Benton County. She received her B.A. in Business Marketing from Loras College in Dubuque and lives in Pleasant Hill with her husband and two children.
