This team is focused on supporting a healthy organizational culture; creating a strategic and agile organization-wide approach to attracting, developing, and deploying our global workforce; and updating our human resources systems and operations to meet the needs of a growing organization. Under Mike’s leadership, the People Team doubled from 60 to more than 120 staff from 2019-2022 to strategically meet TNC’s expanding human resources needs.
Mike began his TNC career in 1998 as the Yampa River Program Manager in western Colorado, where he worked closely with landowners and community leaders to conserve this free-flowing tributary to the Colorado River and the surrounding watershed. In 2004, Mike became the State Director for TNC in Maine, working with a team of 40 colleagues, a dedicated board of trustees, and innumerable community partners to restore the State’s rivers, expand a system of ecological reserves, protect working forests, and partner with the fishing fleet to evolve groundfish management.
Mike serves on the Executive Leadership Team. He previously served as executive sponsor for the Nature’s Pride employee resource group which support our LGBTQ+ community and allies. He earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Brown University, an M.S. in Field Ecology from the University of Vermont, and a certification in Executive Coaching from Integral Coaching Canada.
Mike loves to recreate outdoors with friends and family, and enjoys keeping honey bees and gardening. He lives in Maine on the ancestral territory of the Wabenaki People with his wife, daughter, and myriad pets and foster puppies.
