Biography

Michael is a forest ecologist with more than 15 years of experience studying trees, animals and interactions with people. Originally from the Northwoods of Wisconsin, he has a deep appreciation of nature and Indigenous knowledge. He has both master's and PhD degrees from the University of Washington and has worked for academia, federal, non-profit and private sectors. Michael’s research has focused on how to build the resilience of ecosystems in the face of climate change. He specializes in developing new ways of assessing how climate change will impact nature and how species may move across the landscape. Michael applies his ecological knowledge and practical skills to help prioritize conservation efforts and restore forest lands across Washington State. Michael also loves felling trees and eating cheese.
