From improving air and water quality to enriching soil health, forests provide many benefits to our planet. Trees hold tremendous power, and we know that planting them can help curb the effects of climate change and build a more sustainable world for future generations.
Supporting TNC's Plant a Billion Trees Program and Consumer Connections to the Outdoors
Restoring Earth's Precious Resources
Committed to sustainability, P&G Herbal Essences and TerraCycle are teaming up with TNC to support its Plant a Billion Trees program and to educate consumers about the powerful role trees play in ensuring our world can thrive. To date, Plant a Billion Trees has planted more than 84 million trees globally and is restoring U.S. forests across nine states.
Herbal Essences Addresses the Biodiversity Crisis
“Plants underpin all life on Earth and tangible renewal is necessary to sustain biodiversity,” said Rachel Zipperian, Herbal Essences Senior Scientist. “We are proud to partner with TerraCycle and The Nature Conservancy to carry out business practices that directly enhance natural environments for communities to enjoy.”
Planting Over 61,000 Trees With the Help of Herbal Essences Customers
During the month of April 2021, Herbal Essences planted 1 tree with TNC for every 2 bottles of single bio:renew Hemp & Potent Aloe, Mango & Potent Aloe and Honey & Vitamin B shampoo or conditioner purchased at Walmart stores and on Walmart.com, with a goal of planting 58,000. Exceeding that goal, 61,329 trees will be planted in the U.S. this fall through TNC’s Plant a Billion Trees program (see full program terms here).
From Bottles to Benches
In addition to supporting TNC’s reforestation work, P&G also donated twenty benches, made by TerraCycle from recycled hair care packaging, to be installed and enjoyed by visitors at Independence Lake, Morgan Swamp Preserve, and Edge of Appalachia Preserve for years to come!
TerraCycle's Philosophy: Maximizing the ability to do-good
“Teaming up with environmentally-conscious partners like Herbal Essences and The Nature Conservancy aligns with TerraCycle’s philosophy of maximizing our ability to do-good,” said Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO and Founder. “Together, we are making it simple to be a protector of the planet and to help preserve the natural beauty of the environment for future generations.”
The Edge Preserve System: Popular hiking destination for locals and visitors alike
“We know the benefits of spending time in nature, both physically and mentally, and the preserve has an abundance of beautiful settings to enjoy. In southern Ohio, tourism is also an integral part of the Adams County economy; the installation of these benches not only enhances the public amenities we can offer, but they complement an ongoing effort to create a great experience for visitors, who help generate jobs, sales and tax revenue in the region,” said Mike Hall, Appalachian forest manager for TNC.
