Smart Infrastructure
Design the region’s energy, transport & mining for no net impact on natural capital Challenge.
CHALLENGE:
Latin America needs infrastructure to fuel economies and expand access to basic services. But megaprojects are often licensed and built without considering their full impacts on nature and people, leading to costly conflicts and delays.
SOLUTIONS:
Plan Smart Infrastructure at the landscape- and sector-levels, optimizing siting and design to license needed projects that avoid, minimize, and compensate for impacts, in that order, for net-positive economic, environmental and social outcomes.
KEY PARTNERS:
IDB, CAF, the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission/CFE, the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation/FMSD, Moore Foundation, industry associations, and government authorities particularly in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil.
